Saving the Grey Long-eared Bat Project Manager

We are seeking an experienced project manager to lead our new partnership project: Saving the Grey Long-Eared Bat, funded by the Natural England Species Recovery Programme. You will be extremely organised, with strong communication skills and used to working in partnership with others, including volunteer-led organisations. You will have a good understanding of financial processes, including claims to funders. Your track record of managing partnership projects within the conservation sector demonstrates delivery in line with aims, on time and to budget.

The Grey Long-Eared Bat is one of the UK’s rarest mammals, threatened by climate change, habitat loss and limited roosting opportunities. Although future temperature increases may improve climatic suitability across England, habitat constraints will continue to restrict the species’ recovery. This project aims to secure and expand populations by identifying new roosts, enhancing habitat within core sustenance zones and improving connectivity between key roosts. By creating habitat corridors and stepping stones across south western England (Devon, Dorset, Somerset, the Isle of Wight and Hampshire), the project will support long-term species resilience and enable range expansion at the edge of its current distribution.

This project is led by Bat Conservation Trust, working in partnership with a number of other organisations (please see the job description on our website for a list of project partners) and a fantastic network of volunteers, landowners, ecologists, Local Environmental Records Centres and Local Nature Recovery Strategies across south western England.

The project will run until the end of March 2029.
