Science Manager

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Science Manager to oversee excellence in delivery of BTO’s extensive monitoring and research programmes. Working closely with the Director of Science, this new role will function as a critical bridge between high-level strategy and operation. The successful candidate will enable the efficient delivery of scientific projects, identify improvements and support others to implement them. The outcome will be effective delivery of high-quality scientific outputs, often to tight deadlines, maximising the BTO’s impact for birds and people.

The successful candidate will be a good communicator with an ability to support effective decision-making. They will need to maintain delivery, manage deadlines, risks, and competing priorities while supporting and guiding staff to success – balancing strategic direction with operational implementation.

Our preference is for the successful candidate to be based at our HQ in Thetford, however, applications to work from other BTO offices in Stirling, Bangor or Lisburn will also be considered. You will be able to work from home part of the time on a hybrid working regime and flexible start and finish times can also be accommodated to ensure a good work-life balance.

• £46,344 per annum
• Annual Leave: 25 days per year (plus bank holidays), increasing with service to 26 days after 5 years, 28 days after 10 years, and 30 days after 15 years (pro rata for part-time staff).
