We are seeking a highly motivated and innovative Scientist to join our Target Discovery team. In this role, you will leverage your deep expertise in cell and molecular biology to develop complex disease-relevant cellular models and assays to enable validation of identified targets. You will be a key member in a dynamic research team collaborating closely with interdisciplinary research teams, including experts in functional genomics, drug discovery, bioinformatics, and various disease areas, to translate scientific discoveries into groundbreaking therapeutics. Responsibilities:

  • Plan and execute mechanism of action studies to understand disease biology and target efficacy using genetic editing and chemical biology approaches as agreed upon with the project team.
  • Design and implement molecular and phenotypic assays to characterise in vitro disease models and validate targets
  • Independently solve technical problems encountered during experimental procedures.
  • Evaluate results, draw conclusions and implement process improvements.
  • Ensure that all studies are efficiently executed and aligned to agreed procedures.
  • Maintain project schedules.
  • Participate and present data in company discussions to facilitate project progression and meetings with external academic and commercial parties.
  • Provide accurate documentation of work in the form of electronic lab notebook and reports.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with other company employees.
  • Stay up to date with scientific literature and maintain an awareness of current and emerging techniques/technologies.

Position Requirements:

  • PhD Degree or equivalent experience in in cell biology/cellular assays (experience working in biotech environment advantageous).
  • Experience with nucleic acid-based (such as DNA extractions, designing and optimising primers and probes for PCR, real-time PCR) and protein-based (such as WesternBlot, ELISA) technologies.
  • Strong understanding and knowledge of mammalian cell biology, including cell engineering, flow cytometry and immunofluorescence microscopy.
  • Experience working with advanced patient-derived cell models and/or culture and differentiation of iPSCs.
  • Experience in design and implementation of cell and phenotypic assays to characterise in vitro disease models and validate targets
  • Working knowledge of verification and validation processes, including optimisation and troubleshooting assays.
  • Competence in high content imaging, including analysis, would be advantageous.
  • Self-starter with strong planning and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication, team collaboration and presentation skills.
  • Able to work effectively in a matrix environment and deliver in accordance to agreed timelines.
  • Strong scientific background and demonstrated record of achievements through scientific publications
  • Occasional weekend work is required.
