Scott, and is dedicated to advancing research at the intersection of science, economics, and policy. It performs this function through providing expert support and guidance to a range of EIT programs and shaping the products and services and creating the new markets necessary to tackle all four endeavours. As well as supporting the needs of the EIT endeavours the department also performs its own fundamental research to create new models, frameworks and evidence to feed into innovative solutions.To do so we:

• Conduct cutting-edge research in a multi-disciplinary setting to conceptualise and quantify the economic and broader social impact of scientific breakthroughs.
• Collaborate with scientists, data scientists, businesses and policymakers from across the world to create new markets and products that solve major human challenges.
• Help make the economic and commercial case for business and governments to deliver solutions to major problems and achieve rapid implementation.
• Provide intellectual leadership and recommendations to support decision-makers in creating new frameworks and targets to achieve success in all four endeavours.

EIT is looking for a Senior Economist to lead high-impact economic research and develop models and analyses that drive transformative solutions to global challenges. We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in the broader economics of health and prevention, clean energy, and food security. At EIT, we focus on end-to-end solutions – from foundational research to the creation of new markets – so we welcome both deep researchers and applied economists who are passionate about delivering research-backed change.This role involves close collaboration with internal and external partners to develop models that inform and shape policy across EIT’s core areas. The Senior Economist will play a critical role in bridging commercial activity, government policy, and fundamental research. In addition to leading project teams with clear deliverables, the position includes mentoring junior economists and contributing to EIT’s mission of delivering scalable, sustainable impact.Key Responsibilities:We are recruiting for a number of posts for economist who have expertise across the following areas:

• The broader economic case for health and prevention
• Experience working with health, pharma and biotech companies and organisations as an economist and familiarity with existing evaluation, pricing and approval processes.
• Experience working with governments across a range of issues to evaluate policy proposals and work on implementation related to health, energy and food security.
• Experience in consulting firms performing economic evaluation of commercial initiatives and government policies related to health, energy and food security
• Issues around measuring and valuing health from an economic and social perspective
• Working on the economics of longevity connected with the broad agenda of Professor Andrew J Scott

Responsibilities include

• Leading the design, delivery, and oversight of high-impact economic research, policy analysis and applied economic projects for transformative solutions developed by EIT programs.
• Producing creative and rigorous economic models and analyses to the evaluate the potential societal impacts of transformative solutions and inform sustainable commercial models that create outsize impact. Oversee the use of complex datasets (e.g., administrative, survey, longitudinal) and advanced econometric methods to derive insights and policy implications.
• Collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, including public health experts, data scientists, and policymakers, to shape research agendas and policy recommendations.
• Managing and mentor a team of research economists, including pre and post-doctoral researchers, providing strategic direction, technical guidance, and quality assurance.
• Communicating research findings clearly and persuasively to senior stakeholders, including government officials, industry leaders, and the public.
• Representing the organisation in external partnerships, advisory groups, and public forums on economics, health and ageing.

RequirementsSkills, Qualifications & Experience:

• Advanced degree (PhD or equivalent) in Economics, or a closely related field.
• Significant experience (typically 5+ years) in applied economic roles involving research supporting implementation in either a commercial or policy role.
• Demonstrated experience managing teams and overseeing complex research projects from conception to delivery.
• Proven ability to translate complex research into actionable insights and communicate effectively to non-technical audiences. Experience communicating with commercial leaders or policy makers would be an advantage.
• Strong quantitative and econometric skills, including experience with relevant software (e.g., Stata, R, Python).
• Experience working in or with pharmaceutical companies, economic consultancies/think tanks, international or national policy-making environments or similar.
