Permanent / Full Time (37.5 hours per week based in the UK)Relocation support may be available for this role.Greenpeace International (GPI) is looking for a Senior Scientist to join the GPI Science Unit which is part of the newly formed Political, Science and Research Pillar. Being part of the wider International Programme Department, the Science Unit collaborates with others to provide vision, strategic direction, steer and support for an ambitious Global Programme, with a focus on impact-critical National and Regional Organisations (NROs).As Senior Scientist, you will give scientific support to Greenpeace campaigns with special responsibility for climate science developments, including critical review of proposed technological developments such as geoengineering and carbon capture and storage and the ways in which such proposals potentially extend the continued use of fossil fuels. You will bring your deep knowledge and research experience, to provide strategic input to the Greenpeace global programme.Ensuring the highest scientific standards are developed and maintained will be key to this role. In addition, you will need to monitor and keep conversant with current scientific thinking on relevant issues, so as to promote science and its use in policy in a way which will facilitate environmental protection.You will be required to represent Greenpeace at global and national high-level meetings and processes that require scientific and technical credibility on the issue of climate change, its diverse impacts and potential mitigations.In this role you will:

What you can expect:The Greenpeace International Research Laboratories are part of the Political, Science and Research Unit at Greenpeace International. Based at the University of Exeter in the UK, the laboratories provide scientific advice and analytical support to Greenpeace offices worldwide, over a range of disciplines. The laboratories are equipped with hardware for the analysis of heavy metal and organic contaminants in a range of environmental samples. An extensive database of scientific literature has been built up since 1986 and serves as a core information resource.The expertise of the group encompasses a number of disciplines, including toxicology, organic and inorganic analytical chemistry, biochemistry and terrestrial and marine ecology.You’ll be encouraged to develop both personally and professionally, taking advantage of the wide range of learning and development opportunities available to our staff.
