Senior Seabird & Marine Mammal Observer
Help build the Falkland Islands’ Seabird & Marine Mammal Observer capability.
Join SAERI (Falklands) Limited to establish and lead a new Seabird and Marine Mammal Observer (SMMO) programme supporting environmental monitoring in Falkland Islands waters.
This is an exciting opportunity to lead offshore monitoring, uphold internationally recognised ESAS standards and help develop a sustainable local SMMO capability.
Location: Falkland Islands
Salary: £47,397 + £50/day seagoing allowance
Contract: 2 years

We’re looking for
- Current JNCC-accredited ESAS Surveyor accreditation
- ESAS Trainer status
- Extensive seabird identification and offshore survey experience
- Marine mammal observation and strong data management skills
- Have an appropriate offshore sea survival certificate. Anticipated starting date is November 2026
What you will do
- Lead and quality-assure offshore seabird and marine mammal surveys
- Coordinate observers, vessels and offshore deployments
- Oversee data quality, QA/QC and technical reporting
- Develop and deliver training for local SMMOs
- Work with industry, regulators and other stakeholders
