This is an exciting opportunity to join the Oncology Team at the James Paget University Hospital.This post is for a permanent contractMain duties of the jobThe scope of the work is currently 9-5 Monday-Friday however there is opportunity to join the Haematology on call rota on a 1 in 6 basis for additional remuneration. Applications from those who wish to work less than full time are encouraged.If you are successful you will work alongside medical and clinical oncology Consultant colleagues. You will work in the Sandra Chapman Centre where we undertake our outpatient chemotherapy as well as in oncology outpatient clinics, supporting all the common tumour types, whilst also supporting and developing the Acute Oncology Service. You will be essential for service provision, as well as a valued member of team.About usThe hospital is located less than a mile from long sandy beaches and is surrounded by the natural beauty of the Norfolk Broads. There is a wide choice of good local schools and attractive house prices. The cathedral city of Norwich is only 40 minutes away with excellent shops, restaurants and evening entertainment.Job description
Job responsibilitiesSubject to the provisions of the Terms and Conditions of Service to observe the Trusts agreed policies and procedures drawn up in consultation with the profession on clinical matters and to follow the standing orders and financial instructions of the Trust.To observe local and national employment and personnel policies and procedures, and to comply with Regional and Trust Health and Safety policies.To assume responsibility for and facilitate contact from members of staff with delegated duties for personally accountable patient care.Person Specification
Education and Qualifications
Essential

  • MBBS or equivalent
  • Full GMC registration with license to practice in the UK
  • MRCP or equivalent

Desirable

  • Appropriate higher degree (eg MD, PhD or equivalent

Experience & Knowledge
Essential

  • 4 years postgraduate training of which a minimum of 2 years was in a specialty training programme in Medical Oncology
  • Experience in teaching junior medical staff
  • Ability to provide expert clinical opinion across a wide range of problems within the specialty

Desirable

  • Experience of teaching medical students
  • Experience of committee work/project management

  • Ability to use research outcomes in clinical practice
  • Familiarity with conducting clinical audit
  • Commitment to continuing professional development
  • Willingness to participate in a multi disciplinary team, balancing departmental and personal objectives
