This is an ideal opportunity for a doctor with a special interest in Palliative Medicine to join the Trust at an exciting time of growth.The role will join another specialty doctor and 3 consultants to provide a multi-disciplinary specialist Palliative and End of Life care (P& EOLC) service within the acute hospital, in reaching to the Intermediate Care Centre also on the hospital site. It is advertised as full time or part time – please do enquire if you are seeking flexibility around this as part time or job share options maybe considered.The department prides itself on focusing and supporting each individual to identify what matters to them, what makes them happy in their working life and how we can work together to support that. The successful candidate will have full GMC registration and a minimum of three years post qualification experience in hospital specialist palliative medicine.Main duties of the jobWe are looking for someone who is self-motivated, has strong communication skills, is able to work autonomously with senior clinical support and is flexible in their approach to support our patients and teams across services. Job responsibilitiesThe appointee will have access to a shared team office with a personal laptop at the Great Western Hospital with a personal mobile DECT phone. Remote full IT access is available for home SPA working.

• To undertake clinical care for patients within the hospital and intermediate care setting, working collaboratively across the services, performing holistic assessments and reviewing their management plans as required, ensuring effective communication with the patient, their family and the wider teams.
• To deliver training and education to all levels of staff, as directed by the senior clinical staff.
• To keep up to date with current medical practice and thinking in palliative care by attending regular updates and training courses as directed by senior medical staff. To maintain a record of training and learning using the Royal College of Physicians e-portfolio and participate in regular review with an in-house GMC accredited clinical supervisor. To participate in annual appraisal and effectively maintain a continuous professional learning and development plan agreed with you through the appraisal process and with the support of the SAS doctor development program to support career progression.
• To contribute to audit, research, and quality improvement projects and participate in the supervision, teaching and assessments of medical students and more junior colleagues as needed.
• To be a champion for palliative and end of life care and make a positive contribution to raising the profile of the department locally and nationally including co-operating with fundraising and the charitable aims of the organisation.

Qualifications
Essential

• MBBS, MBChB or equivalent
• Full GMC registration and licence to practice

Experience
Essential

• Knowledge of symptom control in palliative care including malignant and non-malignant disease
• Knowledge and experience of multi-disciplinary specialist palliative care within hospital and hospice settings

Desirable

• Experience in Oncology/ Care of the Elderly / General Practice.
• Experience of palliative on call telephone advice

Teaching & Research
Essential

• Understands principles of research, Audit and Quality Improvement
• Evidence of participation in audit cycle / quality improvement
• Experience of specialist palliative care teaching of postgraduate and undergraduate cohorts

Desirable

• PhD level qualification
• Experience organising educational events
• Evidence of publications
• Evidence of design and delivery of postgraduate education
