Job summaryThis post is a senior fellowship for anesthetists with at least five years of anaesthetictraining.This constitutes part of an additional tier of senior clinical fellows being recruited to managethe increase in acuity and out of hours work based at the Royal London Hospital.The majority of the post-holder’s daytime work will be in Trauma Anaesthesia andassociated specialties, with dedicated time allocated to projects (teaching, academic, qualityimprovement, governance) to support the service and the fellow’s own personal careerdevelopment. In addition, the successful candidate will have a dedicated educationalsupervisor to support their career goals.Out of hours work represents the service provision component of this post and is focusedon supporting the increasing numbers and complexity of cases on labour ward and theincrease in Mechanical Thrombectomy provision at RLH. Clinical Trauma AnaesthesiaGain experience:- in anaesthesia for acute resuscitative surgery;- in management of major bleeding;- in the provision of regional anaesthesia to support chest wall injury, amputation and other skeletal trauma.- in anaesthetic care for higher complexity interventions such as REBOA and ECMO.- of trauma MDT planning, both in the acute resuscitation phase and in the in-patient service.- in anaesthesia for contributory specialties to resuscitative and reconstructive Trauma;- interacting with London’s Air Ambulance and other prehospital services.2. Academic and ManagementDesign and conduct an audit or QI project and to participate in on-going departmental research. Contribute to the trauma governance process including case review and morbidity &mortality meetings.3. TeachingThough the on-call component may vary to reflect the service provision needs, the post holder will gain experience supervising and supporting colleagues in elective and emergency work. As part of the education programme ,the post-holder will be encouraged to organize and participate in teaching on trauma topics relevant to pre- and post-fellowship anaesthetic trainees, as well as join locally run courses relevant to trauma anaesthesia and progress to join the faculty for these as appropriate.
