Summary.Job DescriptionUK Data Engineer (SAS)Location: Leeds, Thorpe Park, Hybrid workingTogether, we make credit work better for all! We do this honestly, ethically and by treating our customers with dignity and respect.We buy debts from lots of different companies in all kinds of sectors as well as provide collection services for other businesses.Our focus on sustainability, hybrid working, leadership development and career progression makes working at Lowell a rewarding experience.The (SAS) UK Data Engineer will work alongside the UK Senior Data Engineer and wider business units to ensure (SAS) codes, processes, stored procedures and reports are implemented in a governed manner whilst suggesting ways to improve their efficiency and improve automation.The UK Data Engineer will also work closely with Data Management and BI, to ensure all processes are using the correct tools, whilst data governance and monitoring is established.Accountabilities and Responsibilities:To work alongside and support the ‘Senior Data Engineer’, ‘Data Architects’ and ‘Product Owner’ to ensure the SAS platform and wider strategic roadmap supports the business needs in particular:Ensure the SAS estate is understood, rationalised and centralised, working across departments to maintain a core SAS user baseProactively suggest the ways (SAS) codes can be consolidated or optimised to improve their efficiency and improve automation, whilst monitoring the coding landscape to suggest consolidation or closure of legacy codes.Collaborate with internal team(s) to identify and fix technical problems.Support a positive and responsible ‘data culture’ in conjunction and partnership with all business teams and colleagues by educating the teams on optimal (SAS) performance and governance.What we need from you:Undergraduate degree in business or a quantitative science (e.g., economics, mathematics, finance); postgraduate degree (e.g., PhD, MSc, MBA) preferredStrong critical thinking skills, intellectual curiosity, creativity, ambiguity tolerance, and a willingness to keep looking for better answersDrive to tackle demanding goals with enthusiasm, tenacity in the face of stubborn obstacles, and interest in pursuing strategies for personal and technical development alongside other commitmentsAbility to prioritise and execute against agreed deadlinesAbility to build and maintain effective, cohesive working relationships with stakeholdersUnderstanding of broader data management capabilities and alignment with business goalsExperience with SAS computing platforms e.g. SAS9.4, SAS ViyaExperience with one or more other structured programming languages for statistical and/or numeric computing (e.g. SQL, Python); exposure to modern data science environments (e.g. cloud, Jupyter, git)Competencies:AssertivenessAbility to articulate and hold their own in pressured conversations and manage expectations of others whilst working under pressure.InitiativeRequires little or no supervision and will seek support if necessary.Understands the necessity to forward plan and think through potential complications.Ability to make sense of issues; identify appropriate solutions to problems and act accordingly.Proactively suggests ideas for improvements around working practices.CredibilityLeads by example.Confident individual who can deal with people at all levels.Demonstrates credibility and appropriate verbal and non-verbal behaviour.Ability to gain the respect from all members of the business.AdaptabilityMaintains good performance and quality of work under pressure and is prepared to manage change at the last minute.Adapts style when necessary.Team effectivenessBuilds effective team relationships.Creates conditions to enable the team to perform at its best by setting clear direction, providing appropriate structure, and recruitment of the right people.Provides the support needed to the team in respect of personal development and coaching.Organisation and planningHas the aptitude to prioritise, plan and organise workloads and the ability to manage expectations and deadlines.Oral and written communicationAbility, confidence, and professionalism to convey written and oral information clearly, concisely and persuasively.CommitmentHas the drive and energy to undertake all tasks displaying the same level of motivation and enthusiasm.EmpathyHave tact, diplomacy, and an ability to anticipate and deal with the varying needs and concerns of others.Able to relate well to others and use interpersonal skills to achieve desired objectives.A mission that gives back:You’ll also have lots of opportunities to make an impact on your personal development.
