UNOPS Nepal is currently working on several new engagements to support the Government of Nepal under the Rule of Law, Climate Change, DRR, Urban development, and procurement support among others, and create new opportunities and jobs for the people of Nepal.
The Programme Management Associate is responsible for supporting the program and project management policies, processes, and methods that are followed and practiced according to the organization standards and being part of the Programme Management Unit (PMU) in the office. The Programme Management Associate will support in promoting a client, quality, and results-oriented approach ensuring utilization of office resources in the most cost-effective manner. S/he directly contributes to the achievement of project results by assisting the PMU and the Country Team in adhering to project management methods and strategies. This consequently reinforces the visibility and image of UNOPS as an effective service provider in project services and management and strengthens its competitive position as a partner of choice in sustainable development and project services.
Under the direct supervision of dedicated supervisor and oversight reporting to the Country Manager the UN University Volunteer will undertake the following tasks. Alongside core tasks, the UNV will also have opportunities to explore other service lines (Infrastructure, Procurement, Partnerships, Financial Management) offered by UNOPS in addition to Programme Management and have access to all learning and development opportunities:
1. Project Monitoring and Reporting:
● Support the PMU and the Country Team in ensuring programs and projects have periodic plans (e.g. quarterly plans) in place with clear milestones which are cascaded from the overall implementation plan
● Participate in maintaining project management deliverables tracking sheet
● Participate in tracking projects’ delivery against forecast on a monthly basis
● Participate in ensuring all projects submit and regularly update specific milestones and targets for the duration of projects’ life cycles, and track progress, or otherwise, against such information.
● Ensure projects maintain and update risks, issues, and lessons learned in One UN-OPS (oUP) system.
● Support to PMU in ensuring UNOPS Policies and Procedures, Financial Rules and Regulations (FRR), procurement, HR, and asset management are adhered to for efficient.
● Support on the compilation, consolidation, and analysis of relevant data for regular portfolio reports and stage plans.
● Support the preparation of the monthly Country Director Report to the Regional Director.
2. Program Implementation:
● Provision of support to effective management of projects in Nepal including financial and operational coordination. .
● Support the facilitation of financial and other resources for project delivery as well as participate in programmatic and resource mobilization activities to sustain and scale up initiatives.
● Facilitating donor coordination and support effective knowledge management, sharing and exchanging knowledge on lessons learned and best practices of programs and projects, identifying knowledge and profiling and assisting in the delivery of knowledge events, and identifying communication, profiling, and media coverage opportunities.
3. Quality assurance:
● Support PMU, in consultation with the relevant stakeholders, assist in preparing amendments to Agreements and Budget revisions when applicable.
● Participate in coordinating quality reviews of programme/project documents and deliverables.
● Coordinate quarterly project assurance (online QA and project assurance meetings)
● Contribute to quality control for management products (project documents, reports, etc.).
4. Knowledge Management:
● Support the compilation of lessons learned as per the defined reporting format.
● Contribute to programme and project documentation management in accordance with UNOPS policies and procedures.
● Support PMU’s capacity-building efforts such as training.
Furthermore, UN Volunteers are required to:
● Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for in-stance in events that mark International Volunteer Day).
● Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country.
● Reflect on the type and quality of voluntary action that they are undertaking, including participation in ongoing reflection activities.
● Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.
● Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly arrived UN Volunteers.
● Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.
