The Engineering Student Recruitment & Outreach Office promotes interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) and is the first point of contact for students and their families interested in pursuing an education at Canada’s top engineering school and one of the best in the world. Our Outreach team designs and delivers innovative pre-university outreach programs offered by the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering and builds awareness of the different areas of engineering and the roles they play in society. The dynamic team shares information on the faculty’s world-leading programs with students around the globe, supports prospective students and their families throughout the application and admissions cycle, and facilitates a smooth and successful transition into the Engineering program.

Your opportunity:

Working under the general direction of the Associate Registrar & Director, Engineering Student Recruitment & Outreach, the incumbent is part of the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering’s central team who designs and delivers innovative pre-university outreach programs. The focus is to create excitement around science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education to a wide audience, from grades 3 through high school and beyond.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the development of operational policies, procedures, and best practices for the program, and make recommendations for improvements.
  • Overseeing the delivery, space, and resources for programs and workshops.
  • Track and analyze program metrics to drive continuous service improvements and assess program efficiency and student learning outcomes, informing future program planning.
  • Implement program improvements, maintain program standards, and liaise with stakeholders and partners to foster collaboration.
  • Analyze service delivery and internal processes, recommending and implementing improvements. Track metrics to enhance service quality and plan workflow for teams.
  • Provide proactive support to individuals in distress, making referrals to university services as needed.
  • Monitor program accounts and generate standard financial reports.
  • Prepare budget variance reports and oversee the activities of a team of staff members performing similar functions.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Six to seven years experience developing and leading policies and programs for equity-seeking populations including girls/women, black youth, indigenous, youth and those youth from lower socioeconomic communities.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience developing and/or leading projects and programs that promote post-secondary STEM education.
  • Proven experience building and strengthening relationships with community stakeholders and partners.
  • Strong understanding of secondary and university level education and programs.
  • Demonstrated experience in program development, execution, and evaluation, with a focus on diversity, access, and inclusion.
  • Proficiency in creating metrics, gathering and analyzing data, and identifying trends to support strategic planning.
  • Ability to make sound judgments and to anticipate the complexity of problems and provide appropriate options and solutions in a timely manner.
  • Skilled in handling sensitive or confidential information with tact and diplomacy.
  • Ability to prioritize competing demands and exercise and a high degree of initiative.
  • Capable of prioritizing competing demands, working under pressure, and meeting deadlines with high accuracy and attention to details.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Intermediate skills with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Effective in working independently and collaboratively, while eliciting cooperation from diverse stakeholders, including faculty, management, staff, and student.

Pay Scale Group & Hiring Zone: 

USW Pay Band 16 — $101,539. with an annual step progression to a maximum of $129,851. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
