We are guided by the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and are blazing a trail towards regenerative (also known as restorative) sustainability.The GHG Reduction Project Manager is an exciting opportunity within the Sustainability office to lead in the sustainability space and work with us to progress our sustainability portfolio. Reporting to the Senior Manager – Sustainability Office, the Project Manager will lead our ongoing Air Travel Emissions Mitigation Initiative (ATEMI) which tracks and mitigates emissions from the university’s air travel by investing in university-based GHG reduction projects that help reduce the institution’s carbon footprint.The Project Manager will manage the ATEMI program with a particular focus on identifying, developing, and delivering GHG reduction projects with key criteria including GHG reduction impact, cost, ease of implementation,and co-benefits. The role will also involve leveraging colleagues across the university community to collectively achieve program goals.This unique role requires working with the full spectrum of SDGs, and the ability to map them to the program’s charter and deliverables to identify feasible and impactful projects. Developing the project in a complex and technically diverse institutional environment will call on the project’s manager’s skills to progress the project from concept to execution. This is an exciting initiative which is part of the Sustainability Office’s mission to embed sustainability in all we do across our campuses and beyond.Your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing overall project design
  • Planning and implementing project phases
  • Developing charter, scope, resources and schedule for project(s)
  • Coordinating tasks for projects and other strategic initiatives with stakeholders
  • Conducting detailed analysis of specifications in preparation for project planning
  • Writing routine documents and correspondence
  • Developing and/or measuring environmental/sustainability metrics and targets
  • Monitoring project accounts and reporting on estimated end-of-project costs

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environment, Sustainability or similar field, or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Six to seven years of experience related to project development and management.
  • Extensive project management experience (carbon/GHG reduction preferred)
  • Self-starter, motivated and driven to deliver results
  • Strong interpersonal and analytical skills
  • Sustainability data/metrics: analysis, measurement, tracking and reporting experience
  • Demonstrated proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite and databases
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Superior organizational skills; ability to pay attention to detail
  • Initiative and ability to exercise diplomacy, good judgment, tact, and discretion
  • Strong interest in the environment and/or sustainability
