Postdoctoral Research Associate in Microbial Metallobiochemistry
Offer DescriptionThe RoleApplications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Microbial Metallobiochemistry studying the proteins involved in metal acquisition and intracellular homeostasis in the early infant gut microbe, Bifidobacterium longum. Experiments will involve working with purified proteins and whole cells to identify the molecular basis for metal ion acquisition in this organism. The research project is led by Dr. Peter Chivers, as part of a collaborative BBSRC-funded project involving researchers at the University of Birmingham. The project will involve a range of experimental methods including native protein overexpression and purification, site-directed mutagenesis, biophysical analysis of proteins, particularly metal-binding affinity and specificity, and assays of bacterial cultures for growth, gene, expression, and metal content. Regular joint meetings between both academic partners will be a key part of meeting project goals and outcomes.Key responsibilities:
