JOB PURPOSE:
The Research Program Manager will play an important role to help administer the vision, strategy, and goals of the core research areas and priorities of the institution. We are seeking operationally minded individuals to support Hoover Fellows and key staff on existing programs and assist with launching new research endeavors. This position will report to the Associate Director of Institutional Programming and is responsible for a variety of operational and administrative tasks. The Research Program Manager will administer research, analyze findings, write reports, and support and manage program research projects. This position favors candidates who enjoy a dynamic work environment and are accountable, proactive, and team oriented. .

CORE DUTIES:

  • Oversee and administer research activities by evaluating research programs, making recommendations that impact policies and programs, and coordinating and implementing changes.
  • Collect and analyze data, create reports, review and explain trends to determine program effectiveness; formulate and evaluate alternative solutions and/or recommendations to achieve the goals of the program.
  • Teach and/or assist in the teaching and administration of courses. Create and/or advise in the development of curriculum. Make recommendations for course improvements.
  • Write and edit content for proposals, peer-reviewed publications, and other program activities under the general direction of Hoover Fellows.  Assist with the development of research grants, (i.e., may suggest new funding opportunities, write portions of grants, and/or summarize data for grant support).
  • Represent the program or function as the key contact and subject matter expert within the department, unit or school and develop communications for internal and external constituencies. Organize and/or participate in outreach activities such as events, partnerships, fundraising, training, and conferences. Lead workshops and facilitate meetings.
  • Monitor expenses, budgets, and finances of the program. Make recommendations on funding based on program spend.
  • May oversee and train student workers.

 

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree and two years of relevant experience or combination of education, training, and relevant experience. Bachelor’s degree in international relations, foreign policy, or political science strongly preferred. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated oral, written, and analytical skills, exhibiting fluency in area of specialization.
  • Ability to oversee and provide basic direction to staff.

Desired/Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong background in program management and specialized knowledge in international relations and foreign policy in Southern Asia and Europe is preferred.
  • Highly organized with keen attention to details; ability to produce high-quality work on deadlines; ability to set timelines, map milestones, meet deadlines, and prioritize and manage multiple projects with competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both oral and written) with the ability to work effectively with staff, Hoover scholars, donors, and overseers.  Knowledge of protocol using sound judgment and discretion when working with individuals from areas of academia, business, and government.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both collaboratively as a member of a professional team and independently. Strong collaborative and relationship-building skills; ability to interact comfortably and work effectively with a variety of individuals to accomplish assigned tasks, including senior administrators, Hoover fellows, staff, donors, and university officials.
  • Experience with the preparation of reports and budgets through analysis and writing.
  • Proficient in Internet web technologies and applications, including Microsoft Office Suite and Stanford’s on-line systems (e.g. University’s Oracle financial systems)

Certifications and Licenses:

  • For teaching jobs, advanced degree or certification may be required for some programs.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Frequently stand/walk, sitting, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, perform desk-based computer tasks.
  • Occasionally use a telephone, writing by hand, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 40 pounds.
  • Rarely sort/file paperwork or parts, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh >40 pounds.
  • Ability to use voice to present information/communicate with others.
  • On-campus mobility.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • May work extended hours, evenings or weekends.
  • May travel locally.
  • Occasional overnight travel.
